On my way home !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Keep your eyes on the Prius V to the left of the Police Interceptor at the start of the video . Suddenly a 2nd generation Pathfinder appears. Crunch!
While he certainly could have stopped safely ahead of the line when the light turned green to yellow he was clearly in the intersection well ahead of when the light turned red. The Pathfinder definitely gunned it to beat the light and appears to have made it into the intersection after it was red - hence why the left-turning Prius didn’t yield. The Prius driver was furious. Cop was unamused at having to change plans from heading to the right and got in a bit of a shouting match with the Prius driver who kept trying to tell his story instead of pulling into a parking lot like the cop asked. I didn’t hang around after it was clear for me to keep going. Anyway - drive safe Oppo and pay attention to those lights!
(Yes I realize my dashcam date is way off. I can’t have it at work so the battery dies during the day and it is slowly getting more and more behind.)

Took the cop a long time to notice...

Kinda looks like the Prius driver was also focusing too much on the left-turning vehicles ahead of him, instead of seeing for himself whether the way was clear. Knowing that he was going to run the yellow, he probably assumed that if it was clear for the truck, it would be clear for him to squeeze through too.
I hate that.
Just the other day, I was approaching an intersection (green light) to make a right turn, and there was just enough room for the oncoming left turner to clear the intersection before me. Which was fine. Except that the car behind him ALSO tried to make it through , following closely wit hout doing his own check for oncoming traffic. (This was on a plain green light BTW, the signal isn’t equipped with “protected left” turn arrows.)

I thought the Pathfinder was at the edge, but I could be wrong

Impressive that the Prius tried
to beat the light right in front of a cop car, I’m guessing situational awareness
not a strong suit here though.

I’m more curious why you can’t have a dash cam during the day?
I find crazy stuff all the time on my ROAV, but I have to sit in my car, connect to the camera’s WiFi, and wait 5+ minutes to download a clip. I captured a wreck right in front of me, though, once, that I definitely saved.

Yeah the way I see this one is that the Pathfinder may technically be at fault if he didn’t quite make it before the red (like ForSweden said below its close) I’m pretty sure the Prius driver could’ve avoided this with a little more situational awareness.

Small town cops. Probably saw it happen but was annoyed he actually had stop his routine and deal with it.

It’s close. When I saw it happen live I thought it was all the Prius’s fault but going frame by frame I think the Pathfinder was a little late. Hard to tell where the intersection really starts from the camera angle I had. Either way I just don’t get it. It’s a small town with just a few lights and nothing happening on a Friday afternoon. Waiting one light cycle isn’t going to make any major impact in your day.

I work at a restricted US G overnment facility. No photos or video allowed. I do keep my camera on during my commute up to the gate but I take it down from the windshield and put it away in the console before I hand the guards my credentials.
The Roav is great for the price but yeah it is slow as all get out over WiFi. When I see something interesting I just hit the button to lock the file then go grab it later from the SD card.

Thank you for the explanation. The ROAV’s SD card is tiny and super hard to get, so I’ve never taken it out.

I’ve gotten the hang of it but it took a few tries. One time it shot out into the floor and took me like 10 minutes to fine in my black floor mats.

Same deal for me on a Navy base, have to unplug the camera when I get to the gate and plug it back in when I leave. Just used to the habit at this point in both cars. I've forgotten once and the guard did actually call it out so they do pay attention I guess.

Shit, they make you take yours down? Mine is glued to the windshield so that wouldn't work so well. I just unplug mine when entering a base.

Pathfinder could have been turning right. Hard to tell from this angle.

So our rules are a little complicated (I honestly don’t know if they are the same as DoD or not) but basically say all personally owned electronic must stay in your car and photography, video and audio recording are prohibited inside the gate without prior authorization. So I don’t specifically have to take it down - it’s more an issue with my particular dashcam setup. Mine has a battery and shock sensor to turn on and record if you get hit while parked. Just unplugging it or turning it off doesn’t prevent it from recording. I was covering it with a glove or sweatband for a while and the guards never said anything but it’s attached to the windshield with a suction cup and the little bit of extra weight was making it fall of during the day half the time. So I just started taking it down.
